Happy Birthday

Sigh! just one card today - had a few bits and pieces to do. I made it for Jay Gee Nooks Blog whose challenge this month is a photo challenge of lots of beach things, banners, lighthouse etc and predominantly blue and white with a little red. I also followed the sketch from Mojo Mondays #197 and also managed to incorporate the 'T' challenge from Top Tip Tuesday where you had to use anything beginning with the letter 't' and I used twine, triangles and a tag!

And my tip - to make waves use a scalloped template and trace the outline and then turn it upside down to create some waves!

OMGosh I have succumbed to the little girl stamps!!! I have held of for soooooo long and then one day an online shop has a ridiculously great sale and I just had to buy some and give them a go! I don't know why I have avoided these type of stamps (the magnolias etc) maybe because I don't have anyone to give these types of cards to ... some how I think my 11 year nephew would just die if he got one of these ... oh my gosh I could give one to him just to annoy him!!! yes I might just do that! I have made this card following the sketch from Sweet Stop Sketches #114. The colour inspiration comes from Scrapbook Boutique - White, Lavender and Purple. I have incorporated the criteria from CRAFT #108 and that was 1 tag (title), 2 circles (under the tulip and the tag) and 3 rectangles/squares (the layered paper). I am also submitting it for the challenge at Paper Sundaes and naturally I chose purple and gems (liquid pearls) as my choice and also for Kaboodle Doodles - circles and dots - I love spots and dots paper!

I spent the weekend in Colac (country Victoria) with the in laws and so I didn't get any cards made! So I am doing a bit of a catch up with a few late ones from last week combined with a few from the start of the week!
I started with the sketch from Card Positioning Systems #224 and the colours come from Designed 2 Delight and Paper Playtime which both are doing Red White and Blue. I have incorporated dry embossing for Secret Crafter and butterflies for What's that theme throwdown. I adore dots and spots and love incorporating them in cards so this card is no exception ... you could say it is a dot and rhinestone card!

Just one card today - chatting too long on skype with the family!!!
I loved how this card turned out in the end and I have followed the colour scheme from Diecut Dreams - white, red and blue, the sketch is from Card Positioning Systems #223. I have also drawn inspiration from Quirky Crafts where you had a choice of 3 out of 9 and I chose 3 backing papers (Loire Valley and Beauty Vintage papers), embossing (dot embossing) and ribbon (the skirt and ribbon that I thread through the ribbon slide are from Bella 'vintage beauty'). I have also incorporated a little sparkle by making a bling belt and this is for Crafty Creations - let it shine.

I made another shaped card this afternoon (I did a dress one the other day) and I must say I found these templates on the web at Paper Crafts Magazine and you can down load the templates - there are quite a few of them and they are fab.
So I loved the lamp one so I am using it for the challenge at Birthday Sundaes - shaped birthday card and also for Totally Stampalicious where you had to use something old and something new - the old is the stamped title where 'shine' is from Unity Stamp Co. 'shine on!' and the 'its your day' from Grant Archival both stamp sets are old and the something new is the paper - Kaisercraft 'nan's favourites' and the creative works border punch.

Well it was a very stormy night here last night and I thought the little unit was going to be blown away! fortunately we woke this morning to no damage and no trees down and our little dog was still where we left him tucked in his basket with his electric dog mat ... yes he has an electric blanket (a dog specific one!).
So the day was chilly and a time to stay in the craft room! I made this card following the sketch from Card Patterns. With the inspiration coming from the fortnightly challenge at Wee Memories - 'party time' and I managed to incorporate the challenge from Kaboodle Doodles and that was food/drink - hence the birthday cake.

Here is a card I made this afternoon - it is a circular easel card (this is my first circle easel card I have made, I have only ever made one other easel card and that was a sort of squarish one - I am liking these easel cards!). The sketch is from Sweet Stop Sketches #113 with a spin which is to make a circle card. I made it into an easel card from the challenge over at Paper Sundaes. The inspiration comes from Secret Crafter #60 and that is to use something from around the home - hence the teacup! and the colours comes from the challenge from Designed 2 Delight - Pink and Orange!

I acutally don't mind the colours of Pink and Orange and at first I didn't think I could find any papers to co-ordinate but I did find some in the end. I love the mousie image from Inky Antics and this set is gorgeous to work with.

All dressed up!

I just made the most girly card ever (well for me!!!) and I have to say I actually don't mind it! The inspiration comes from the challenge over at Crafty Creations - lets' dress up. I didn't have any stamps to represent this so the I did the next best thing - I made a dress card and 'dressed' that up! The template comes from Paper Crafts mag (jan/feb issue).

I even made a pearl necklace for the outfit.

Just for You Angel

I made this card yesterday morning but never got the chance to put it up on my blog! I made it following the sketch #33 from Cardabilities - these sketches are very easy to use and open to lost of interpretation. I have also used my very first digital stamp .... yes! I am just a little behind the times when it comes to that sort of thing ... call it being a little apprehensive about not actually 'stamping' something but 'printing' something off is a bit hard to swallow. But hey I am open to everything crafting and like food will give anything a go!

Now my problem is/was with digital stamps is the following (and if you could offer up any suggestions or solutions that would be appreciated) - I stamp my images with Stazon and colour my images with marvy markers and a blender pen - so naturally I use watercolour paper as my base. I tried printing with watercolour paper and the ink bled when blending. So I tried colouring with coloured pencils - I have done this in the above card - but that also tends to slightly if you look really closely bleed a little bit where the black ink line is - so my question is how does everyone else deal with it - especially those that use a blending pen to colour. I have a normal printer - is it better to use a photo specific printer?
Anyway I don't mind using digital stamps and will definitely give it another go soon ... but I think I will remain making card with 'stamped' images!
I am also submitting this to What's that theme throwdown which is flowers and I have used those cute mini rolled roses from MFT dies and have made them out of felt.

ABS say it with ...

A sad sigh as this is my last challenge as Annabelle Stamps June guest designer. I would like to thank Andrea and her fabulous design team and off course all who participated in the challenges for their kind words left on my blog.
For the final 'say it with...' challenge for June I sort of struggled with the colour combo and ended up not liking my original card so I left it for a few days and came back to it and went completely in another direction and made another card using the following criteria ...

And I have to say that I love the card and the colours are wonderful together!

this is a 'Z' card and this is my first one. I used an edge craft punch along the top of the card and it is easier to do this before scoring the card!

'Z' cards are fab to make but really when you look at my card it is reversed and more an 'S' card! I just realised as I posted this card that I have it back to front ... silly me! Oh well only you and I know that I have it wrong, whoever gets the card won't know!

I have also made this card following sketch #195 from Mojo Mondays. The concept of the 'Z' card is for Paper Playtime and the theme of 'flowers as the main focus' from Kaboodle Doodles.

If I remember right this is one of my first stamps that I bought about 10 years ago!!! OMGosh I can't believe it and I stumbled across it while searching for something girly! To make it a little more interesting I went kindy glitz crazy!
At first I struggled but I must admit I don't normally do 'girly orientated' cards and approached it with dread! but I am very happy with the resulting card and find it really 'funky'!!!

what a hectic day and I only managed to get one card done! I have made this for the sketch from Inspirational Card sketches #119 and drew inspiration from the challenge over at Simon Says - choose 3 in a row so I chose flowers (stampendous flower stamps), eyelets (1/8" red eyelets) and buttons (handmade flower head button). I am also submitting it for Top Tip Tuesday which is open theme this week.

True Love anniversary card

I spent nearly all day making this card! Neils Aunt and Uncle will be celebrating their 60th wedding Anniversary in August so I thought I would plan ahead and have a try at an Anniversary card for them. I saw the sketch from Card Patterns #119 and thought of an idea to use the circle as a heart and then I had the brain wave to hang a bird cage from it ... and because I liked my idea I just had to try to make a card to feature a large heart with a hanging birdcage!

side view - it took me a while to figure out how to have the heart and thought a of a card with many folds!

with the large sizzix heart swirl I trimmed the swirl at the top so the cage could hang more freely.

and I just bought MFT mini roses die and had to some how incorporate them on this card and so created a little garden bed at the base of the heart.

I found the MFT mini rose dies work better with felt, although paper does work I found that I had to practice alot with the papers to get it looking like a rose!

I have seen these multi fold cards and they looked fab so I thought I would give it a go with my own clean line style and I do like the resulting card.

I am also submitting this card to Magic in the Air with Cupcakes blog - use 2 - flowers and diecuts and also for Totally Stampalicious - anything goes.

Happy Fathers Day

It must be coming up to fathers day in America since alot of blogs are having male/fathers day challenges - here in Australia our fathers day is in September so I thought I might as well make a fathers day card now save me doing it in September!

I even managed to squeeze in a ribbon! (although I drew the line at putting a bow in it!) I love the heart that I inked - the heart is chipboard from Paper Inklings and they are 3 seperate hearts that are concentric so I inked them individually and then pieced it back together - hence the 2 tone heart and off course I had to cover it with glossy accents!

keep cool this xmas

A Christmas card! I know it is early but the challenge over at Southern Girls this fortnight is 'christmas'. Now here in the Southern Hemisphere our Christmas is during our summer so inspired by this I created this card below ...

It always seems strange for me to make a christmas card using snowmen etc so I decided to go for something that represents christmas in Australia - alot of people go away for christmas and our coast line is swamped with campers and caravaners so this is just typical in campgrounds - swimsuits hanging up between trees on chrismas day!
I like creating 'scene' cards especially outdoors with grass, sky and clouds!

Eat Ice Cream!

I like the title of this card 'lets party and eat ice cream' ... I wish!!! I made the card following the sketch from Inspirational Card Sketches #118, the inspiration comes from Partytime Tuesday - a summer birthday card and the colours are inspired from The Lollipop Ladies - rainbow swirl (pink, purple and yellow with swirls!). I struggled to begin with but in the end I am happy with the way the card turned out!

The ice cream cone has been scored - I remember when I was a child that the ice cream cones use to have scored marks thru them I am not sure about now as I don't bother with the cone and just go straight for the ice cream in a bowl (and yes I also lick the bowl clean ... yep approaching 40 and I still do that in the privacy of my own home!!!).

I stamped a swirl on the ice cream part and applied glossy accents to it - I would have embossed with embossing powder but my heat tool died the other day!

ABS say it with ...

Time for another weekly challenge from Annabelle Stamps blog and this week it is a technique challenge and I have to say as a keen stamper it is one of my favourite techniques (as well as many others!) it is ....

... too easy! Here is my card ...

I have used the wonderful set called Party Animals 1. I use this set alot and it is made up of individual cheeky animals so as you can see I created a group of animals using the masking technique. To make a mask you stamp the individual animals on scrap paper, fussy cut and apply repositional glue to the back of each mask, let it dry and become tacky. For this group I only had to make one mask and that was for the dog. I stamped the dog first on water colour paper, use my mask to cover it and then stamped the cat on the right with a slight overlap on the dog and then stamped the mouse to the left again with a slight overlap. I then removed the dog mask, coloured in the images, sponged my background and edges and voila!
It is a fabulous technique masking - examples could be creating a bouquet of flowers using one flower stamp, creating a scene with background and foreground elements, adding an image with in an image, a good example of this is using the Christmas Scene Baubles stamp set -you can stamp an image within the baubles so you would stamp a bauble and then mask it negatively - cut away the blank area within the bauble and use the surrounding area as a mask and then stamp something that blank area!

Forever

Whew this is my last posting for the day - I have a tendancy to do all my blogging at once rather than at the end of each card - I save them up!
I felt a little flat today when I entered the craft room but once I began this card I felt alot more inspired! I followed the sketch from Sweet Stop Sketches #111 and my inspiration comes from Totally Stampalicious and that was to use 3 different ribbons - at first I thought that would be easy but I struggled a bit! however the sketch allows for the use of 3 ribbons!

here is a close up of the birds in a tree and also the shrink it button!

For this card I combined 2 stamps - Bo Bunny 'crush' stamps (birds) and Imaginisce 'apple cider tree' stamp. The heart button is made of shrink it - I die cut a small tipsy heart, stamped small hearts, punched 2 x 1/8" holes and shrunk it with an embossing tool, I then thread twine through it.
My trim is from MM ruby vintage trim and they include the white and pink trim, striped grossgrain and the brown pom pom trim!

Just hanging around ...

My mother was over from NZ for the past week and she always has to go back with box loads of handmade cards. She also wonders why I make so many cards and that stumped me - how do I explain to her that I love to make cards and I participate in so many challenge blogs, not to win or anything like that, but to do the challenges so that I expand and develop my creativity and most importantly I look at the challenges offered and challenge myself to interpret them in styles and ways that stimulate the creativity ... know what I mean?
Anyway the card below is no exception! I have used the sketch from Cardabilities #32 and have rotated the sketch 180 degrees. The theme comes from Cupcake Crafts 'things with a tail' hence the monkey and this fitted in perfectly with the challenge from Simon Says 'draw inspiration from fruit' hence the bananas - which by the way are an absolute delicacy here in Australia at the moment, with the cyclone earlier in the year that wiped out the main growing area for bananas they are retailing at $12.00 now when they normally would be around $2.00! I haven't had a banana in months and I am craving for them!

True Love

While shopping online for strictly paper the other day I found this gorgeous set of stamps from Bo Bunny and funny enough it just jumped right into my online basket and made it all the way to the checkout, through the checkout, through the post and landed right here on my craft table ... so much for just shopping for paper! Anyway here is a card I made with the set - I followed the sketch from Mojo Mondays #194, and I am also submitting it for Creative Cards - wings - the 2 little gorgeous birds! and Paper Playtime - love theme ...

I love adding a little bit of mechanics to my card and one of my many favourite 'things' to do on a card is to 'hang' things - I have a small collection of split rings to do this! To make my little birdcage I stamped the cage on acetate, fussy cut and made a door, I then secured it to yellow card stock and fussy cut again, I stamped the birds on the yellow card and again on white card and blue paper and fussy cut and attached to the image and voila! a sweet little embellishment!

Wish you were here

I got a new set of stamps yesterday and I just had to try them out! The stamp set is from Hero Arts 'wish you were here'
I made this card following the sketch #221 from Card Positioning System, I drew inspiration from the challenge at Secret Crafter -hence the chair and setting and the colours which I absolutely love the grey, purple and yellow I never would have thought that these colours got so well together and when I saw their photo I though 'wow' what a wonderful colour combo! I have incorporated the challenge set down by Diecut Dreams which was 3 flowers, 3 stamps (chair, table, lamp and title) and a bow. I am also submitting it for Wee Memories which is anything goes this fortnight. I have also submitted this for the challenge over at Paper Sundaes which was to add a sentiment 'wish you were here'

One of my favourite techniques is paper piecing and I have stamped the chair on both purple and grey patterned papers. By fussy cutting certain panels out of the purple paper and attaching it to the grey chair it gives the chair more colour and dimension. The lamp was also stamped on both yellow and purple patterned paper and I fussy cut the lampshade only from the purple paper. The background behind the chair was 2 colours (yellow for the walls and grey for the floor) to give it a more 'in the room' effect.

Here is a card I made using one of my favourite set of stamps Up, Up & Away by Verve. I made a masculine card for the Designed 2 Delight blog and also for Magic in the air with cupcakes blog.
I have followed the sketch from Card Patterns #118 and I am also submitting it for anything goes over at Birthday Sundaes.
The card sort of didn't turn out the way I wanted - I had an idea that I could make the hills and clouds more 3D and rounded by using a broad embossing tool on the back of them and giving them a bit of a lift but alas it didn't quite work! To try and emphasise the roundness of the hills I used silicone sealant instead of foam tape - takes a long time to dry (overnight) but it allows the hills to maintain their roundness - can't quite see in the photo but trust me the hills feel round when you see it in real life!

here is a close up of the balloon which I have fussy cut and applied liquid pearls.

I have fussy cut a few of the swirls and have lifted them up slightly and also applied liquid pearls to the trees.
